Deadly Bus Crash in Indonesia Kills at Least 11

At least 11 people, mostly students, were killed when a bus crashed in West Java, Indonesia on Saturday. the Associated Press reported.

The bus, carrying 61 students and teachers, was returning from a graduation celebration in the Bandung resort area when its brakes reportedly malfunctioned.

The bus sped out of control down a hill, crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding with several cars and motorbikes before crashing into an electricity pole.

Nine people died at the scene, and two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, including a teacher and a local motorist. Over 50 other people were hospitalized, some in critical condition.

“We are still investigating the cause of the accident, but a preliminary investigation showed the bus’s brakes malfunctioned,” said local police spokesperson Jules Abraham Abast.
