Indonesia’s defense minister Prabowo declared election winner
Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto was declared the winner of the presidential election in the world’s third-largest democracy Wednesday over two former governors, the Associated Press reported.
The former special forces commander won the Feb. 14 contest with nearly 60% of votes, a resounding victory over rivals Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo Subianto.
Subianto’s 96 million votes were the highest received by any candidate in a democratic election in Indonesia surpassing Joko Widodo’s 85.6 million votes won in the 2019 election.
