India: Authorities suspend principal for permitting students to perform Namaz in UP Govt school

A government primary school principal in Lucknow, capital city of Uttar Pradesh, India, has been suspended for allowing a group of students to offer namaz on the school campus, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.

The principal was suspended on Saturday, October 21, and the incident happened on Friday.

“Offering namaz on school premises is against departmental guidelines,” a district level education officer said.

The action was taken after a video purportedly showing a group of students offering namaz on the school campus went viral on social media.

It should be mentioned that freedom to religious practice is a fundamental right in all human societies, but the nationalist Government of India has placed unreasonable restrictions on Muslim acts of worship.
