Lucknow hosts mass mourning procession on martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali, peace be upon him

The Indian city of Lucknow witnessed the largest symbolic funeral in commemoration of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali, peace be upon him, with the participation of thousands of Shia mourners.

The representative of the Supreme Religious Authority, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi in the city, Sheikh Mustafa Adib al-Hindi, said: “The symbolic funeral event for the body of the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him, has become an annual ritual held in Lucknow for 153 consecutive years,” indicating that “ The funeral procession starts from Najaf al-Ashraf area in Lucknow and marches about four kilometers to reach the Kufa area attributed to the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him.

 He added that “this event is held after the morning prayer, and approximately one hundred thousand Ahlulbayt followers as well as followers of other sects and religions, participate in it, in appreciation and respect for the Commander of the Faithful, peace be upon him.”
