Thailand Launches Muslim Scholars Council to Strengthen Islamic Education
……….
Thailand has formally announced the establishment of the Muslim Scholars Council of Thailand, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and the Central Islamic Council of Thailand. The initiative aims to enhance Islamic education and academic research at a national level.
The signing ceremony was held in Bangkok on December 4 and was attended by the country’s Grand Mufti, senior government officials, and leading academics. The event was chaired by the Minister of Higher Education, with participation from ministry representatives, diplomats, university leaders, and researchers from various educational institutions.
Officials said the creation of the council reflects a strategic partnership designed to improve the quality of Islamic education, support joint research projects, and develop academic curricula. The initiative also seeks to empower young scholars and position Thailand as a regional hub for Islamic studies through structured academic cooperation.
The agreement also marked the launch of the first phase of the Thailand Centre for Islamic Education, involving 12 universities and community colleges from across the country. Authorities described the move as a significant step toward building a national academic network and strengthening Thailand’s role in Islamic scholarship and cultural exchange within the region.
