Strong Winds and Dust Storm Disrupt Flights in Delhi, Result in Four Deaths

At least four people, including three children, lost their lives as strong winds, dust storms, and heavy rain battered New Delhi on Friday morning, officials reported, Anadolu Agency reported. The severe weather caused delays for over 100 flights at the capital’s airport.
State meteorologists noted that wind speeds reached up to 79 kilometers per hour (49 miles per hour) in the Safdarjung area, accompanied by intense thunderstorms and rainfall across the city. The extreme conditions led to fallen trees and waterlogged streets, disrupting transportation and airport operations.
Delhi International Airport confirmed that while it continues to operate normally, adverse weather has caused some flight delays and blocked roads due to fallen trees around the airport.
The fatalities occurred in the Dwarka neighborhood, where strong winds caused significant damage. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has directed officials to identify areas affected by water accumulation and implement solutions to manage the situation.
