IUML Leads Massive Protest in Kozhikode Against Waqf Amendment Act

Thousands gathered at Kozhikode Beach, Kerala, on Wednesday evening in a massive protest organized by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) against the newly passed Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, Muslim Mirror reported. Organizers claimed over two lakh attendees, calling it India’s largest protest against the law, which they argue undermines Muslim constitutional rights.
IUML state president Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal inaugurated the rally, condemning the law as “anti-constitutional” and expressing hope for its repeal by the Supreme Court. The party has already filed a petition challenging the Act.
The protest saw participation from national leaders, including some renowned Congress figures. IUML’s key figures addressed the crowd, vowing to resist what they termed “undue government interference” in Waqf properties. They promised to continue their legal and democratic fight to protect the rights of the Muslim community and ensure that minority institutions remain free from what they term as undue government interference.
Similar protests have been held in other states, with some turning violent after police intervention.
