Renowned Shia cleric Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad Naqvi spearheaded a significant protest against the BJP government’s proposed Waqf Amendment Bill at the historic Asafi Mosque following Friday prayers, Clarion reported. Organized by Majlis Ulama-e-Hind, demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the bill’s withdrawal.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad condemned the Joint Parliamentary Committee for ignoring Muslim concerns and accused the government of attempting to seize Waqf properties. He highlighted the neglect of Waqf institutions, citing the deteriorating conditions of properties like the Hussainabad Trust.

The cleric criticized the plan to place Waqf properties under district magistrates, alleging corruption and mismanagement. He urged Muslims to unite against the bill and participate in upcoming protests organized by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), emphasizing it as a religious duty. A major protest is scheduled for March 13 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
