Muazzin Recites Azaan from Shahi Jama Masjid Terrace in Sambhal

In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, a video has surfaced showing Mohammed Haji Raees, a Muazzin, reciting the Azaan from the terrace of the Shahi Jama Masjid, Muslim Mirror reported.

This action followed a police directive to remove loudspeakers from the mosque’s roof, part of a broader initiative by the Yogi Adityanath government to limit loudspeaker use in public spaces.

Sambhal’s Superintendent of Police, Krishan Kumar Bishnoi, clarified that while loudspeakers were banned, reciting the Azaan was still permissible as it did not constitute a criminal act. This incident reflects ongoing tensions regarding noise regulations in the area, particularly after previous arrests of Imams for similar violations.

The situation has been sensitive, especially after communal tensions heightened following a survey of the historic mosque. Authorities are striving to maintain public order while respecting religious practices amid these challenges.
