India: Congress Leaders Condemn “Bulldozer Justice” in Madhya Pradesh

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the demolition of the home of Shahzad Ali, a local Congress leader, following his participation in a protest against derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammed, Muslim Mirror reported yesterday.

Kharge described the act as “inhumane and unjust,” emphasizing that such actions have no place in a society governed by the rule of law. He condemned the BJP state governments for using demolition as a tactic to instill fear among citizens, asserting that offenses should be resolved through courts, not coercion.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra echoed these sentiments, arguing that punishing families before legal adjudication is barbaric. She highlighted the need for lawmakers to uphold the law and emphasized that governments must not act like criminals.

Both leaders called for an end to “bulldozer justice,” asserting that it undermines democracy and moral duty in governance. The incidents have sparked significant concern regarding the treatment of minorities in BJP-ruled states.
