India: UP officials take strong stance on Muharram rituals amid preparations for Ashura

India’s UP CM, Yogi Adityanath, has recently stressed that “no new tradition will be allowed” regarding Muharram rituals, Times of India reported yesterday.

He further emphasized that, ahead of the Muharram procession, local committees associated with the ‘tazia’ should liaise with authorities to avoid incidents.

It should be mentioned that the Shia community in Uttar Pradesh revive the rituals of Azadari for the Master of the Martyrs every year through processions and Majalis.
