Narendra Modi Sworn In for Historic Third Term as India’s Prime Minister

Narendra Modi was sworn in for an unprecedented third term as India’s prime minister on Sunday. Modi is the first Indian leader to win three consecutive elections since founding prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Despite his BJP party losing its outright majority, Modi was unanimously backed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition to lead the government.

Modi has vowed to continue his “Viksit Bharat” or “Developed India” agenda, with a goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. However, analysts expect Modi will need to be more accommodating and work with allies to maintain stability, a departure from his traditionally more authoritarian approach.
