Scientists discover fossil of massive prehistoric snake in western India

Scientists have recovered 27 fossil vertebrae from a mine in western India, reportedly belonging to one of the largest snakes ever, estimated at up to 15 meters long, the Guardian reported.

The snake, named Vasuki indicus, resembled a large python and was not venomous, the article mentioned, adding that it must have been a slow-moving ambush predator that would subdue its prey through constriction.

The remains were found in Panandhro, Gujarat, and the researchers estimate its weight to have been around 1 tonne.
