India: Shia scholars lodge official complaint against insulter of Imam Ali, peace be upon him
During a religious speech in his temple, a Hindu priest, Darin Shastri, insulted the sacred character of Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, local sources said.
After video footage of the incident came on social media, Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Saif Abbas Naqvi, one of the representatives of the Supreme Marja, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi, went to the police station in Lucknow along with several scholars and lawyers and filed a written complaint against the individual.
According to Indian law, no one has the right to desecrate objects or personalities held sacred by other religions.
Hujjat-ul-Islam Seyyed Saif Abbas Naqvi emphasized that the offender has not only wounded the hearts of Shiites and Muslims by insulting Amirul Momineen, peace be upon him, but also millions of Hindus who have deep respect for the Commander of the Faithful.
He further stressed that legal action will be taken against the insulter until justice is delivered.
District Superintendent of Chowk Lucknow Police received the written complaint and assured that the offender will be dealt with as per Indian law.
