Delhi HC denies Muslims permission to hold Shab-e-Barat prayers at Akhoondji mosque in Mehrauli

The Delhi High Court refused to allow prayers at the recently demolished ‘Akhoondji mosque’ and nearby graveyard in Mehrauli for Shab-e-Barat.

The court noted that it has directed status quo on the site, which is now in the possession of the Delhi Development Authority.

The main petition on the demolition issue is already listed for final disposal on March 7. The petitioners argued that the demolition of the mosque was illegal, while the DDA defended its action based on the recommendation of its Religious Committee.

The court had previously asked the DDA to maintain status quo on the site where the mosque once stood and to provide a clear explanation of the demolition action taken.

It should be mentioned that Indian Muslims seek forgiveness from Allah for their sins and those of their ancestors on Shab-e-Barat.
