Indian Shiites show unprecedented presence in commemoration anniversary of Mirza Mohammad Athar

The commemoration anniversary of Mirza Mohammad Athar, the great Shia preacher of India, was celebrated on Sunday night in Husseiniyyah Asif Daulah in Lucknow.

The presence of the Shiites in this ceremony was unique, local sources confirmed. Marking the rarest of occasions, the center, the world’s largest Husseiniyyah, was overbrimming with Indian Shiites who paid tribute to the servant of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

Mirza Mohammad Athar used to lecture in the Mumbai Iranians Mosque for 58 years during the first 10 days of Muharram. In January 2005, he established the Center for Personal Status of Shias in India to protect the rights of Shias in a non-Islamic country.

Mirza Mohammad Athar passed away on February 26, 2016 and was buried in Lucknow.
