Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: According to Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him), Shia Rejoice in Joy of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and Grieve in Their Sorrow

The daily scholarly session of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq Husayni Shirazi was held on Thursday, 11th Rabi‘ al-Awwal 1447 AH. As in previous gatherings, His Eminence responded to various jurisprudential questions raised by participants.

Explaining the meaning of sha‘a’ir Allah (Divine Signs), Grand Ayatollah Shirazi stated:
“Sha‘a’ir Allah are anything that embodies reverence for the Infallibles (peace be upon them).”

He elaborated that practices such as offering food, holding mourning gatherings, celebrating joyous occasions, decorating, and any other action that society recognizes as honoring the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) are considered among the Divine Signs—so long as they do not involve prohibited acts.

Providing further clarification, His Eminence emphasized that if such actions are not haram and are regarded by people as expressions of reverence for the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), they fall under the meaning of Imam al-Sadiq’s (peace be upon them) narration:
“Our Shia are created from the essential nature (Teenat) of our clay; they grieve at our sorrow and rejoice in our joy.”

The Supreme Marja noted that, based on this narration, the emotions and practices of the Shia in harmony with the occasions of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) themselves constitute manifestations of Divine Signs.
