Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) as a Prime Example of ‘Nafs Mutma’inna’ in Quran

On Tuesday, the 27th of Rabi al-Awwal, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Hosseini al-Shirazi led his daily scholarly session, where he addressed various jurisprudential inquiries from attendees.

Referring to verses 27 to 30 of Surah Al-Fajr, which speak of the “‘Nafs Mutma’inna’ (tranquil soul),” Ayatollah Shirazi stated: “O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him]. Enter among My servants and enter My paradise.” He explained that the ‘nafs mutma’inna’ is specifically highlighted in the Quran, characterized by the attributes of being Raziyyah (well-pleased) and Marziyyah (pleasing).

He further elaborated that there is a specific narration regarding this noble verse, indicating that it was revealed in relation to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

However, he emphasized that this narration does not limit the concept solely to Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) but maintains its general applicability. It includes the Imams from the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, and other righteous individuals who rank just below the Infallibles.
