Bangladesh: Over 5,500 Rohingya Refugee Shelters Damaged by Severe Weather
————————————–
More than 5,500 shelters housing Muslim Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, southeastern Bangladesh, have been damaged by heavy rain, strong winds and landslides, forcing many families to move to safer areas.
The severe weather has worsened living conditions in the overcrowded refugee camps, increasing the need for safer and more durable housing. In response, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, in cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has supported efforts to improve emergency shelter conditions.
The humanitarian response has included the construction of 280 stronger temporary shelters designed to provide better protection against harsh weather and landslides. The latest damage highlights the continuing vulnerability of Rohingya refugees and the need for improved disaster preparedness and safer infrastructure in the camps.
