Muslims in Rogatica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, marked the 450th anniversary of the historic Shođin Mosque with a special ceremony highlighting the continuity of the region’s religious identity.

According to Anadolu Agency, the event was held as part of the “Days of Mosques and Communities” program after evening prayers, drawing a large turnout of local worshippers, religious leaders, and community figures. Speakers emphasized the mosque’s role in preserving social and religious ties among residents.

Built in 1576, the Shođin Mosque has undergone multiple reconstructions throughout its history, with the most recent restoration completed in 2007. Local religious authorities told Reuters that despite a declining Muslim population in Rogatica, mosques continue to attract significant attendance during religious occasions, reflecting the enduring faith across generations.

The ceremony also highlighted ongoing restoration projects for Islamic infrastructure in the area, while experts noted demographic challenges remain a pressing concern. Religious scholars described the Shođin Mosque as not only a historic monument but also a symbol of cultural resilience and the lasting devotion of Bosnia’s Muslim community.
