Clashes at Bangladesh university leave over 150 students injured

More than 150 students were injured in clashes at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology in southwest Bangladesh, marking rising tensions between student groups, media reports said today.
The violence erupted Tuesday when the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) attempted to recruit students on campus, leading to a confrontation with members of Students Against Discrimination, a group that played a key role in last year’s protests that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Police officials said at least 50 injured students were taken for treatment, while many others suffered minor injuries. Authorities deployed additional police to restore order. Footage of the incident showed students wielding weapons such as machetes, while injured individuals were transported to hospitals.
The incident has sparked further student protests in Dhaka, highlighting ongoing political tensions ahead of national elections expected next year.
