UNICEF Calls for Urgent Help as Bangladesh Floods Affect Over 2 Million People
UNICEF has expressed deep concern over the devastating floods impacting northeastern Bangladesh. According to the international organization, over 2 million people, including more than 772,000 children, are urgently in need of assistance, reliefweb reported yesterday.
Children are especially vulnerable to the floods, facing risks of drowning, malnutrition, waterborne diseases, and emotional trauma, the article highlighted.
UNICEF is working alongside the Bangladeshi government and local organizations to provide aid. They’ve distributed clean water to over 100,000 people and essential supplies, and are preparing for a worsening situation.
While schools are closed for Eid, hundreds have been flooded and are now serving as shelters. Nearly 140 community health clinics are also affected.
