Bangladesh: Opposition parties intensify anti-government campaign ahead of 2024 general elections

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the parties involved in the simultaneous movement against the ruling party have announced plans for a continuous strike or blockade program from January 2 to January 8, the day following the election in Bangladesh.

BNP, the main opposition party in Bangladesh, has formally communicated its concerns about the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections in a letter addressed to the United Nations General Secretary, terming the elections as ‘one-sided’ to unfold as a ‘dummy’ election process.

The BNP raised serious concerns about the recurrence of violence and rigged elections, citing a pattern observed in recent incidents that disproportionately favor the ruling Awami League while victimizing the BNP.
