Bangladesh Approves $723 Million in Funding for Rohingya Refugees, Host Communities

The Bangladeshi government has approved a major funding package totaling 84.82 billion Bangladeshi Taka ($723 million) to support persecuted Rohingya refugees and host communities in the southeastern Cox’s Bazar region, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.

The financing will come from the government and international donors, the news agency mentioned.

It added that the funds are aimed at providing assistance to the over 1.2 million Rohingya refugees who have fled violence in Myanmar. The majority live in overcrowded camps in Cox’s Bazar, though in recent years some have been relocated to the island of Bhasan Char.
