The Muslim Council of Elders, headed by Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb of Al-Azhar, has issued a statement congratulating Arab and Islamic nations on the occasion of Mid-Sha‘ban Night, a religious observance marking the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance). The council emphasized the spiritual significance of the night and called for increased tolerance, mutual respect, and peace among communities.
In its statement, the council described Mid-Sha‘ban as a valuable opportunity for self-reflection, strengthening mercy, and promoting human brotherhood. It urged Muslims to translate the ethical values associated with the night into practical actions that serve society and contribute to sustainable peace. The council highlighted the importance of spreading love, rejecting hatred and extremism, and encouraging peaceful coexistence amid contemporary global challenges.
The council’s message also stressed the need to revive a spirit of compassion and peaceful coexistence in today’s world and encouraged believers to embody the teachings of the occasion in their daily lives. It called on Muslim communities to uphold the message of Mid-Sha‘ban by demonstrating practical commitment to values of tolerance and solidarity.
The Muslim Council of Elders is a prominent Islamic body that brings together religious leaders and scholars from various backgrounds to address issues affecting Muslim societies and promote moderation, tolerance, and unity. Its annual messages on major religious occasions are closely followed across the Arab and Muslim world.
