Kashmir Commemorates Martyrdom of Imam Zainul Abideen with Large Mourning Procession
……………………
The town of Chhanabal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district was draped in mourning as thousands gathered to mark the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Zainul Abideen (Ali ibn al-Husayn, peace be upon him). Organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Shia Association, the day-long event drew mourners from across the region in a solemn show of reverence.
The commemoration began with Quranic recitation followed by elegies and emotional lamentations honoring the legacy of the fourth Shi’a Imam. Religious scholar Maulvi Imran Raza Ansari delivered a keynote address highlighting the Imam’s enduring message of patience and faith, particularly his pivotal role in preserving the spiritual legacy of Karbala through works like the Sahifa Sajjadiya.
The program also paid tribute to Sayyida Zainab (peace be upon her) and her courageous stand in the court of Damascus, where she exposed the atrocities of the Umayyad regime alongside Imam Zainul Abideen. The day concluded with a massive mourning procession, with chants of “Labbayk Ya Husayn” echoing through the streets, underscoring the Kashmiri community’s deep spiritual bond with the Ahlulbayt.
