Leicester-based Shia community organizes mourning procession in commemoration of Holy Ashura
The Shia community in Leicester, UK, organized a Husseini mourning procession to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, on the 10th of Muharram.
This nourning procession was organized by the Leicester Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Muslim Community (MKSI), after a pause since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ali Abbas Rajani, the official organizer of the procession, said that the Hussaini gathering started from Humberstone Gate in the city, passing through East Gates and High Street, and concluded at Jubilee Square.
Rajani added that the procession saw the participation of hundreds of mourners who walked long distances, chanting slogans expressing their love and loyalty to Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
He concluded that Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, represents a symbol of inspiration for all people, affirming that Imam Hussein’s refusal to pledge allegiance to Yazid bin Muawiya embodies the values of justice and human rights that we should all strive to achieve in our daily lives.
