Six million mourners commemorate Tenth of Muharram Pilgrimage in Holy Karbala

The Karbala Provincial Council announced on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, the number of mourners participating in the commemoration of the 10th of Muharram (Ashura).
In a statement obtained by Shia Waves Agency, the council stated that “about 6 million mourners participated in the Ashura commemoration this year, 2024.”
The head of the Karbala Provincial Council, Qasim Ali Al-Yasiri, confirmed the success of the security and service plan for the Ashura Pilgrimage.
He pointed out that “the province had developed a comprehensive plan and formed special operations rooms to ensure the success of the million-person pilgrimage, which proceeded smoothly without any breaches or incidents.”
The Iraqi Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari said, “The plan for this occasion proceeded as planned, distinguished by the significant role of the security forces, including high-level intelligence efforts and continuous monitoring of the sectors with security cameras around the clock.”
