Tehreek-e-Hurriyat banned under UAPA for attempts to “Establish Islamic Rule” in Jammu and Kashmir

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Jammu and Kashmir (TeH), an alleged separatist group, has been declared an ‘Unlawful Association’ under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Muslim Mirror reported.

According to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Modi government has a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, asserting that any individual or organization engaged in anti-India activities would be thwarted under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

TeH, founded in 2004 by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was a part of the larger Hurriyat Conference. The recent ban follows the 2019 prohibition of Jamaat-e-Islami and JKLF under UAPA.
