The Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi has recalled the honorable roles of the Shia scholars in publicizing the cause of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and reviving the holy religious rituals, despite all the obstructions that stood before them and the attempts to prevent and obliterate the Shia identity.
In his speech on the tragic memory of Ashura, the Grand Ayatollah referred to the role of his grandfather, Sayyed Muhammad Hasan al-Shirazi, in disseminating the principles of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, and in performing the Husseini rituals in the holy city of Samarra, despite the difficulties he faced at the time, and the small number of Shias, who at that time did not exceed more than ten percent of the city’s population.
His Eminence explained that Sayyed Muhammad Hasan al-Shirazi had contributed to building a Husseiniyah and an Islamic seminary in the city of Samarra despite all the circumstances that he witnessed, and he was keen to revive the first ten days of Muharram annually, and to participate in the establishment of mourning processions, in addition to the establishment of the Tatbir ritual on Ashura.
His Eminence pointed out the role of religious authorities and scholars in reviving these sacred rituals and preventing attempts by those who wish to ignore and prevent their establishment.
