The Spanish coastguard has rescued 86 people from a boat off the Canary Islands, Aljazeera reported.
The fishing vessel, which left Senegal for Spain, had about 200 people on board and had been missing for nearly two weeks, the report adds.
Another two boats – one carrying about 65 people and the other with 50 to 60 on board – are still missing, and their health condition is unknown.
It should be noted that the Atlantic migration route, typically used by refugees from sub-Saharan Africa, is one of the deadliest in the world.
Nearly 800 people have died or gone missing in the first half of 2023, according to Walking Borders.
Experts say factors such as poor economies, a lack of jobs, political unrest and the impact of climate change force people to risk their lives on overcrowded boats to reach the Canaries.
