Afghanistan: Girls in Balkh province call on Taliban to reopen schools
Afghan girls in Balkh province have reiterated their calls to the Taliban authorities to immediately reopen schools and universities to enable them resume their education, TOLOnews reported.
Since Taliban returned to power in August 2021, it has put restrictions on women represented by preventing them from pursuing their education, and also disallowed them from working with international organizations.
This decision drew international condemnation from human rights organizations, demanding the ruling authorities to lift ban imposed on women.
The UN mission has described the ban as “a human rights violation and massive act of self-harm.”
UNAMA urged the Taliban government to act immediately to protect lives, livelihoods, and the future of Afghan people.
