The Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board plans to provide houses to the lower-middle-class within the Shia community through a scheme that involves allotting vacant land to beneficiaries.
The board will get the houses constructed through a committee, and selected beneficiaries will have to pay the construction cost in fixed installments while meeting the eligibility criteria similar to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The board is hoping to increase its income and reduce land encroachment through the scheme and has selected Lucknow, Amroha, Jaunpur, Bijnor, and Muzaffarnagar for the project.
The scheme aims to provide housing to lower-middle-class people living in rented accommodations and who have not yet been able to get a house of their own constructed, Zaidi said. The board also hopes that the scheme will increase the income of the Waqf Board through the allotment of its vacant lands.
For now, Lucknow, Amroha, Jaunpur, Bijnor, and Muzaffarnagar have been selected for this scheme, as these places have a large Shia population and Waqf land is in abundance.
