The International Nonviolence Organization (Free Muslim) expressed, Sunday – April 30rd, solidarity and support for the journalists, calling on official authorities around the world to release all prisoners of conscience and journalists detained on political backgrounds.
In a special message issued on the ‘World Press Freedom Day’, obtained by Shia Waves Agency, the Organizationsaid said: “The civilized international community has recognized freedom of the press and media as an inherent right of societies and a criterion of public freedoms protected by the law.”
The message continued, “It is no secret to all observers that the phenomenon of silencing intimidating journalists is widespread in many countries, resulting in dire consequences that have claimed the lives of journalists and their countrymen alike.”
The organization warned that “these violations targeting journalists are mostly a result of their activities defending their societies, politically, economically or socially.”
The Free Muslim also reiterated its calls for “the need to provide full support for the press in general, given the role of this humanitarian sector in the advancement and prosperity of peoples, and in ensuring the fight against crime and corruption.”
