UN: Plans to reduce global warming still not sufficient
A new report issued by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), warned on Wednesday that the plans provided by most signatory countries to the Paris Agreement would reduce global warming emissions, but they were still unclear enough to reduce global temperature to 1.5 °C by the end of the century.
Simon Steel, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, said: “The downward trend for expected emissions by 2030 shows that countries have made some progress this year, but science is clear and our climate goals under Paris Agreement. We are still far from the scope and speed of reducing emissions.”
