Iraq’s holy shrines mourn martyrdom anniversary of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, peace be upon him
The holy shrines in Karbala, Najaf, Kadhumiya and Samarra were covered in black banners, in preparation for the commemoration of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Jafar al-Sadiq, peace be upon him.
Mourning ceremonies are being held to revive the sorrowful occasion.
Imam Jafar al-Sadiq is the sixth Shia imam of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them. He was martyred on the 25th of Shawwal, 148 AH, by al-Mansour al-Abbasy.
His holy body is buried in Jannat al-Baqi Cemetery in Medina.
