UN investigation into war crimes in Yemen ends
The United Nations Human Rights Council has agreed to end the mandate of its independent investigators who have found that all parties to the Yemeni conflict have committed acts that may amount to war crimes.
Activists said that “Saudi Arabia pressured hard not to agree to the Western draft resolution that would have extended for two years the mandate of the independent team that documented possible war crimes in Yemen, by parties including the coalition led by Riyadh.”
The vote in the Geneva-based 47-member council came with 21 countries objecting to the draft resolution submitted by the Netherlands, 18 in favor, seven abstentions, and the absence of a state, Ukraine.
