Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: Marking the eighth day of Shawwal as the International Day of al-Baqi is a religious duty in the way of reviving the tragedy of al-Baqi
The followers of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them, in Iraq and the Islamic world, are commemorating the International Day of al-Baqi on the eighth of Shawwal, which marks the painful tragedy of the demolition of the Baqi graves in Medina by the Wahhabis.
The commemoration of this international day came after the Supreme Religious Authority, His Eminence, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi, issued an important statement on the occasion, in which he called for naming the eighth day of the holy month of Shawwal as the International Day of al-Baqi, in commemoration and remembrance of this painful tragedy, and in order to intensify efforts to familiarize the international community and the whole world with the extent of this crime committed by the Wahhabis against the holiest Islamic sites, and to demand the rebuilding of the holy graves of the Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.
His Eminence said in his statement, “The designation of the eighth day of Shawwal as the International Day of al-Baqi is a religious duty in the way of reviving the tragedy of al-Baqi.”
His Eminence added, “We hope, through the performance of these religious duties by all male and female believers, to bring joy and bliss to the heart of our Master, Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance.”
