Officials of the famous Mecca Mosque in the city of Hyderabad said that they are working on restoring the mosque, which is one of the oldest and largest mosques in India and is also a heritage building located in the old city of Hyderabad.
An unnamed official said that the mosque’s restoration process began under the supervision of the state’s Department of Antiquities and it is not certain that its restoration will end in the coming month of Ramadan.
The source added that the mosque’s includes 16 halls, 9 of which have been restored, and seven remain, and that the completion of the restoration process needs 3 or 4 months.
It is noteworthy that the mosque, after restoring many parts of it, was opened to worshipers, and officials are currently working on completing the restoration so that the mosque can accommodate a greater number of worshipers until the next Ramadan.
The Mecca Mosque was built in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries AD in the city of Hyderabad, India, and is one of the most prominent works of Islamic architecture in India, with a capacity of 20,000 worshipers.
