Iraq’s Shia Endowment Chairperson Seyyed Alaa al-Musawi has denied the news of forbiddance of the self- flagellation rituals for Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, by Grand Ayatollah Sistani.
Iraq’s Shia Endowment Chairperson Seyyed Alaa al-Musawi has denied the news of forbiddance of the self- flagellation rituals for Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, by Grand Ayatollah Sistani.
Al-Musawi explained that the Grand Ayatollah does not forbid the self-flagellation rituals at all, and that the forbiddance news are merely rumors.
Al-Musawi added that the top Shia clerics namely Ayatollah al-Hakim, Ayatollah Sheikh al-Fayadh, and Ayatollah Sheikh Basheer al-Najafi have stated that the self-flagellation rituals are ways to express the grief for the Master of Martyrs, peace be upon him.
It is worth mentioning that several countries around the world witness the participation of a number of clerics, seminary students, and crowds of Ahlulbayt lovers in the self-flagellation rituals.
