Austrian Council Warns Against Collective Accusations Against Muslims in Fight Against Extremism
——————————————–
According to ABNA, the Council, headquartered in Vienna, has stressed that efforts to combat extremism must not result in collective accusations against Muslims or restrictions on their religious freedoms.
The Council warned that targeting entire religious communities could deepen social divisions and undermine the rule of law and human rights. It emphasized that measures against extremism and violence must be evidence-based and implemented in accordance with established legal frameworks.
It also highlighted the close connection between combating the political exploitation of religion and protecting freedom of religion. The Council called on churches and religious institutions to support individuals and communities facing discrimination.
The statement follows remarks by Austrian Minister for Integration and Religious Affairs Claudia Bauer, who said that the proposed initiative was intended to target extremist Islamic groups, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood.
