Vienna Islamic Centre Welcomes Austrian Visitors for Annual Open Mosque Day
————————————
The Islamic Centre of Vienna has welcomed Austrian residents as part of the annual Open Mosque Day initiative, aimed at promoting interfaith dialogue, challenging stereotypes and strengthening mutual understanding between Muslims and the wider community.
The event, held under the slogan “Optimism Through Encounter,” took place across several Austrian cities, including Vienna, Graz and Salzburg, in cooperation with the Islamic Religious Community in Austria. According to the Austrian Press Agency (APA), the initiative attracted numerous visitors interested in learning more about Islam and the lives of Muslims in Austria.
The programme featured guided tours highlighting Islamic calligraphy and architecture, as well as a documentary screening on the history of the Islamic Centre and the heritage of Muslims in Austria. Organisers also provided opportunities for direct, informal conversations, allowing visitors to ask questions and engage with members of the Muslim community. The initiative sought to promote cultural exchange, reduce prejudice and encourage peaceful coexistence through openness and greater mutual understanding.
