Australia is moving toward a broader strategy to address Islamophobia, focusing not only on responding to hate incidents but also on prevention through education, awareness, victim support, and stronger social cohesion.

The country’s Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia has been meeting Muslim communities and local organizations across Australia to better understand their experiences and involve them in developing solutions. The efforts come amid a reported rise in anti-Muslim hate incidents, with data from the Islamophobia Register Australia indicating a significant increase in reported cases in recent years.

In 2026, the envoy’s office launched a national awareness campaign encouraging victims and witnesses to report incidents, aiming to improve understanding of hate patterns and strengthen institutional responses.

A national report released in 2025 included 54 recommendations covering accountability, victim protection, education, and community cohesion. The Australian government has since announced measures including education programs on Islamophobia, professional training, mental health support, and initiatives to increase participation among Muslim women and youth.

The new approach emphasizes Muslims as active partners in combating hatred through reporting incidents, participating in consultations, and strengthening connections between Islamic institutions and wider society.
