Bulgaria has concluded its National Competition for Basic Islamic Knowledge, honoring outstanding students who participated in summer and year-round Quranic education programs across the country.

The final stage of the competition was held in Momchilgrad on August 29–30, 2026, with the participation of 104 children who qualified after regional competitions organized by local mufti offices throughout Bulgaria.

The competition marked the conclusion of this year’s Quran courses, which were organized by regional mufti offices in cooperation with the Office of the Grand Mufti. According to organizers, 10,177 children took part in the Quranic programs this year, reflecting the continued interest in religious and educational activities among Muslim children in Bulgaria.

The closing event was attended by representatives of Islamic institutions, regional muftis, imams, teachers, academics, diplomats, parents, and members of the local community.

Participants competed across different age groups and categories, including students from summer Quran courses as well as those enrolled in year-round programs. The competition included Quran recitation, religious knowledge assessments, and cultural activities.

The organizers highlighted the role of Quranic education in helping children learn religious teachings, develop moral values, and strengthen their knowledge, while also recognizing the efforts of teachers and families in supporting these programs.

At the end of the event, all participants received school supplies, while top-performing students were awarded certificates of recognition and financial prizes.
