California Man Charged Over Threat to Kill Muslims at Temecula Mosque

A 60-year-old Southern California man has been federally charged after allegedly sending a threatening letter to a mosque in Riverside County that warned of killing Muslims, U.S. authorities said.

Louis White of Warner Springs was charged with mailing threatening communications to the Islamic Center of Temecula Valley, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. The mosque reported the letter to law enforcement on August 26. It allegedly contained an explicit threat to kill members of the Muslim community, accompanied by an antisemitic-style image depicting crosshairs and a bearded face with Xs over the eyes, along with an offensive reference to Allah.

Investigators traced the letter to White and searched his residence on August 29. Authorities said they seized several firearms, including an AR-15-style short-barreled rifle without a serial number, commonly known as a “ghost gun.”

White was arrested and remains in state custody at a Riverside County jail. Authorities said he is expected to be transferred to federal custody in the coming weeks.

The federal charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison if White is convicted. The case follows a reported threat against a mosque serving Muslim residents in the Temecula and Murrieta communities and is being prosecuted by federal authorities.
