September 5: World Charity Day Highlights Role of Faith-Based Giving in Tackling Social Deprivation

As the world marks International Day of Charity on September 5, social experts and religious activists are highlighting the importance of charitable giving, almsgiving and supporting people in need as effective means of addressing economic hardship and strengthening social solidarity.
The United Nations designated September 5 as the International Day of Charity to raise public awareness of the role of humanitarian organizations and charitable initiatives in addressing major social challenges. The occasion also provides an opportunity to highlight the Islamic teachings of infaq (charitable spending), sadaqah (voluntary charity) and muwasat (solidarity with those in need).
The teachings and conduct of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) have long emphasized helping the disadvantaged while preserving their dignity and avoiding any form of humiliation or expectation of return.
