The holy city of Mashhad has witnessed a massive influx of mourners and pilgrims from across Iran and various countries around the world as they gather to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (peace be upon him), the eighth Imam of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

According to figures reported by the Shahrara newspaper and cited by the Shia Waves Agency, more than four million pilgrims have so far arrived in Mashhad to participate in mourning ceremonies held during the final days of Safar.

Among the visitors, more than 700,000 pilgrims traveling on foot have reached the city through organized caravans and mourning groups, walking from different regions along routes leading to the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (peace be upon him) to take part in the large-scale commemorations.

The growing number of visitors has led to significant crowds in the courtyards of the Holy Shrine and surrounding areas, prompting calls for careful travel planning and coordinated management of return journeys to help reduce congestion and ensure smoother movement for pilgrims.

Authorities and organizers emphasize that proper scheduling and cooperation among visitors will contribute to more organized ceremonies and allow greater numbers of pilgrims to perform their acts of worship and mourning at the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (peace be upon him) with greater ease and comfort.
