Karbala Hosts Annual Festival for Arbaeen Pilgrims from African Countries

The holy city of Karbala hosted the annual festival for pilgrims attending the Arbaeen pilgrimage from African countries, with broad participation from visitors and students of religious sciences from several African nations.

The festival was held at the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine and provided an opportunity for religious and cultural exchange among pilgrims and religious students, while highlighting the humanitarian and reformist dimensions of Imam Hussein’s (peace be upon him) movement.

Hassan Mohammed Nahari from Nigeria, the festival’s supervisor, said the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine has continued to provide various forms of support and services to pilgrims, particularly those arriving from African countries. He explained that the festival was held following approval from the shrine’s religious authority, His Eminence Allamah Sayyid Ahmed Al-Safi, to allocate Imam Hassan Hall for the event.

Nahari said the initiative provided a suitable setting for pilgrims and religious students to exchange knowledge and experiences and reflect on the significance of the Arbaeen pilgrimage and its universal spiritual and humanitarian messages. He also expressed appreciation to the Al-Abbas Holy Shrine for its continued support of the annual event.

Sheikh Ayoub Adam Omar, a religious sciences student from Nigeria, said the festival is held annually on the 21st of Safar under the theme “The Message of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)”. He added that it brings together pilgrims from Nigeria and other African countries, along with religious students residing in the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf.
