Shia Muslims around the world commemorated the seventh of Safar, the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hasan ibn Ali al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him), with mourning ceremonies held at holy shrines, Hussainiyas, and Shia centers, while religious institutions and communities expressed condolences on the tragic occasion.

On this sorrowful occasion, the Shia Waves Agency extends condolences to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the Imams of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them), especially Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), as well as senior religious authorities and the Muslim and Shia communities worldwide.

In its message, the agency remembered Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) as a symbol of patience, forbearance, sacrifice, and steadfastness in the face of trials. It stated that his life represented a model of resilience and commitment to Islamic values, describing his martyrdom as a tragedy that has continued to grieve believers throughout generations.

According to correspondents of the Shia Waves Agency inside and outside Iraq, mourning programs were held across various countries, with participation from followers of the Ahlulbayt (peace be upon them). Holy shrines, Hussainiyas, and religious centers organized gatherings featuring Quran recitations, religious lectures, elegies, and remembrance ceremonies highlighting the life and legacy of Imam Hasan (peace be upon him).

Participants emphasized the importance of preserving the rituals of mourning and presenting the true biography of Imam Hasan (peace be upon him), saying that his life and leadership have been subject to historical misrepresentation. They called on universities, research centers, and cultural institutions to study his contributions and highlight his role in supporting the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).

Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) was the first son of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) and Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), and the first grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). According to the provided historical accounts, the Prophet personally chose his name, and Imam Hasan (peace be upon him) spent seven years of his childhood alongside his grandfather.

Known for his extraordinary generosity, Imam Hasan (peace be upon him) was given the title “Kareem Ahlulbayt” (the Generous One of the Prophet’s Household). Historical accounts cited in the sources state that he donated his entire wealth twice and half of his wealth three times in the path of God, and that he performed Hajj pilgrimage on foot on numerous occasions.

According to Shia historical accounts, he was poisoned and martyred on the seventh of Safar, 50 AH, at the age of 48. The sources state that his burial in Baqi Cemetery followed opposition to the burial at the Prophet’s Mosque and an attack on his funeral procession.
