Husseini mourning ceremonies marking the first ten days of the holy month of Muharram were held in the Afghan capital, Kabul, at the Lady Zainab al-Kubra, peace be upon her, women’s school in the Chahar Qala Chahar Dehi area.
The gatherings witnessed wide participation from Afghan women who came to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, his family, and his companions in the tragedy of Karbala.
The ceremonies were marked by an atmosphere of grief and sympathy, with participants reflecting on the meanings of Ashura and the values it represents, including sacrifice, steadfastness, and resistance to oppression.
The program included speeches and lectures on the philosophy of Imam Hussein’s uprising and the goals of his reformist movement. Speakers also reviewed the events of Karbala and emphasized the importance of drawing lessons from this eternal tragedy.
Participants also took part in mourning rituals, including chest-beating and the recitation of Husseini elegies, expressing their condolences to the Master of Martyrs, Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and his family.
The gatherings form part of a wider series of Ashura programs held in several Afghan cities and regions during Muharram to commemorate Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and renew loyalty to his message of truth, justice, and reform.
